Reconnecting to My Essential Self
We are all born into this world innocent and sensitive. Some call this state of being the “essential self.” However, we do not get to stay innocent for long. The world can be a harsh place, so we are quickly forced to learn how to adapt in whatever ways we can.
Every moment of distress causes us to armor ourselves with an ego structure or “crust” so that we will not be continually wounded. This crust keeps us shielded from the hardships of life for a while, but it soon begins to cut us off from our essential self, the person we came into this world to be. If we are not careful, we start to live from our crusty ego structure and we leave our essential selves behind.
There is Hope
The breaking down of our ego crust is done by understanding of who we truly are. Finding our enneagram number or “space” gives us the clues to both what imprisons us and what frees us. As we do the necessary work of self-observation and reflection, we find ways to reconnect with our essential selves. In doing so, we begin to recognize what is most important to us and ultimately why we are here in the world at this time. In the breaking down, we begin to hear the faint call of our destiny.
If you are feeling disconnected or have forgotten what is important to you, there are a number of groups starting over the next two months that support all levels of enneagram work.
Whether you are looking to deepen your awareness after decades of personal work or are just starting out, there is a group for you.
Is it time to reconnect with who you truly are?
