Bringing the "New" to New Year...

As 2021 draws to a close many of us pictured something a bit different going into 2022.

A friend of mine has a tradition each time he rings in the new year. He opens the back door of the house to allow the old year to leave and opens the front door to usher in the new one. Simple, but I found it so meaningful in the way we look at turning over of the year.

As we all say good-bye to 2021, what needs to be let out the back door? Are there grudges that we are holding? Are there hurts that we keep reliving? Are there judgements that need to be revisited or just plain let go? I feel pretty confident that I can sit down and write down at least three things that have run their course and have begun to be a bit of a burden to me. So, to those burdens, I can say "good-bye". Do you have anything that can be let out the back door? Remember to say “good-bye” as they leave.

As for the approaching new year, What new things, plans, ideas, views, or undertakings will I allow in? Many of us look to the new year with a to-do list made up of things we have avoided during the past year or of hopes for the new things that we intend to do. But what will we actually DO in this coming year?

To help with your New Year’s to-do list this year, I invite you to try a three-centred approach to your new year’s resolutions:

I WISH – HEART CENTRE

We all have a hope and a wish of things we desire to complete. This is our first step. We need to be clear on what we want. Not what anyone else wants for us. This is about a heart’s desire.

I CAN – HEAD CENTRE

We all are able to seek out the knowledge we need to make those wishes come true. We can read books, we can talk to friends and professionals and we all know how to use that wonderful thing called the internet. Being informed never seems to be our problem.

I ACT – BODY CENTRE

This is about ACTING. This is the tough one. This is the place where the rubber hits the road. This is where we actually make things happen in the real world in real time. This is where change takes place.

We must chose to ACT! Our hearts and our heads can be very active in the intention and information gathering, but they need the body in order to manifest our desires in our lives. All three centres must work together for things to change for us and to bring change to the world.

Are you moving back and forth between knowing what you are able to do (HEAD) and wishing you could do it (HEART)?

As 2022 dawns, will we all open the front door to choosing to act on all of our great ideas and heartfelt desires?

Wishing you and your loved ones inner calm and peace to help meet the coming year.
